Best Recliner for Tall Person NZ
What Recliner Is Best for a Tall Person in NZ?
If you're over 185cm, the main things to check in a recliner are: backrest height (ideally 95cm+ from seat to top), seat depth (54cm+ so your legs don't hang off), and footrest extension. Most standard recliners are designed for average height — around 175cm — so taller people often end up with the headrest at shoulder level instead of head level. The EchoRest Power Recliner at $965 and the Elite Comfort 3 Seater at $1,475 both work well for taller frames and are on the floor in Henderson so you can test them.
Recliners That Work for Taller People
Recliner Questions for Tall People
What seat depth should a recliner be for a tall person?
Look for 54cm or more of seat depth. This means your thighs rest fully on the cushion rather than cutting off at the knee.
Are power recliners better for tall people?
Often yes — power recliners let you fine-tune the recline angle so you can find the exact position that works for your height rather than snapping between fixed positions.
What's a good recliner under $1,000 for tall people?
The EchoRest Power Recliner with USB at $965 works well for taller frames and has a powered backrest so you can adjust angle incrementally.
Can two tall people use a 3-seater recliner?
Yes, if each person has their own reclining section. The Elite Comfort 3 Seater Recliner has three independent recline positions.
Are there XL or tall-person specific recliners in NZ?
Not many are labelled 'XL' in NZ, but in practice the EchoRest and Elite Comfort models accommodate taller people well based on customer feedback.
Is it worth spending more on a power recliner?
If you use it every day, yes. Power mechanisms are generally more durable than manual over 10+ years and the USB charge port is handy.
